Private Pilot Licence

Here at The Flying School Ltd we offer a stable and comfortable environment in which you can achieve your PPL and with our ‘Pay as you go’ policy it enables you to learn at a pace to suit you with regards to tuition and expenditure.

The Private Pilot Licence course consists of a minimum of 45 hours training in a Single Engine Piston aircraft. Completion of this licence gives you the privileges of carrying non-commercial passengers under Visual Flight Rules during daylight hours.

A PPL is the foundation of flight training for all pilots whether you wish to fly for a hobby or pursue a career in commercial aviation.

A Class Two Aeronautical medical must be completed before your first solo flight.

You will sit a Radiotelephony practical exam to gain a Flight Radio Telephony Operators Licence.

When you have met the required standard for skills test and have passed all nine theory exams you will conduct a flight test with a UK CAA approved examiner which confirms you have met the required standard in both skill and safety.

There are nine theoretical multiple choice exams with a pass mark of 75%.

You will need to pass Aviation Law, Operational Procedures & Human Performance before your first solo flight.

There is no minimum age to start flight training. However, from the age of 14 you can start logging hours towards your PPL(A).

The minimum age for your FIRST SOLO flight is 16 years old. 

17 years old is the minimum age to hold a PPL(A).
