Night Rating

The Night rating enables a pilot to fly in official night conditions (30 minutes after sunset). This is a UK rating only but gives a pilot the satisfaction of watching sunsets from the skies.

The Night rating consists of no exams and no flying test but a 5 hour course which requires a minimum of 3 hours dual instruction, 5 solo take offs, 5 solo landings and at least 1 hour of dual navigation. Please bear in mind these are only CAA guidelines and duration of the course depends on the aptitude, weather and learning capability of the pilot.

Night rating training is only available during winter months due to the amount of daylight hours.
